Product Description

Are you an accident waiting to happen?
Here is the answer to your concerns!

The Springer is an attachment you fix onto your bicycle which will allow you to ride with one dog on one bike. With a few additional pieces, you can also ride with two dogs on the one bike and switch them from side to side as needed.  It is recommended your dog wears a harness when attached to the Springer.  Harnesses are available separately and are not included in the kit.

The Springer can easily be attached to either side of most standard ladies and mens bicycles, including mountain bikes and touring bikes but is not suitable for a fold up bicycle or children's bicycles.  The Springer is ideal for medium and large dogs, we do not recommend small dogs.  See our Springer Bike Attachment Spare Parts for riding with two dogs or using two bikes.

The low mounted flexible coil spring absorbs and reduces 90% of your dogs unexpected tugs and movements, it's easy to keep balance and both your hands are free for the handlebars and brakes.  Your dog will run beside you in a nice heel position, not in front or behind the bike and at a safe distance from the side of the bike.

The flexibility of the Springer is just as gentle to your dog as it is to you and your
bike which makes biking with the Springer actually more comfortable for your dog than jogging with the leash in your hand.  No pre-training is necessary (except that you must know how to ride a bike, of
course!) and it's a good idea to ride with only one dog at a time until you are all used to the Springer.

Between trips Springer may be mounted or unmounted in two seconds, using
only the tips of your fingers
.

IMPORTANT:

  • Springer is ideal for biking safely with medium or large dogs but is not recommended for small dogs.
  • Do NOT ride on roads -  you are not a vehicle.
  • Use common sense, use safe biking areas to exercise your dog/s
  • Dog must wear a harness (available separately) or modify your own
  • Stay off roads
  • Not suitable for childrens bikes.

Never force your dog to run, let your dog set the pace and allow your dog to run when he or she is ready.

What happens in an Emergency?
If you look the other way while your dog runs on the wrong side of a
tree for instance, a special patented safety release will free your dog instantly, without any discomfort
to either you or your dog.  Make sure you have a look at the Springer video at bottom of page.

Springer Harness
For safety reasons we do NOT recommend you attach the Springer to your dog's collar - when biking with the Springer you will need a harness.  You can use a standard harness but will need to modify it for use with the Springer.  The harnesses we make here at TopDogs (available separately) are designed especially for use with the Springer and are completely different to a standard harness.  We have your dog's comfort and safety in mind.  Please refer to Springer Harness for more information.

How to Ride with Two Dogs

  • One bike and two dogs - purchase one Springer plus an extra Springer Arm (including Cord, Hook, and Safety Release mechanism).  See our Springer Spare Parts page for more details.
  • Two bikes and two dogs - purchase two Springers - all the bits you need for attaching to two bikes are included in each kit.
  • Two bikes and one dog -  purchase one Springer and then all you need is another clamp.  See our Springer Spare Parts page for more details.

FEATURES:
• Attaches easily onto most bike frames.
• Low mounted coil spring absorbs and reduces jerks and pulls.
• Safety release mechanism.
• Use on right or left hand side of the bike.
• Takes seconds to hook up to your bike.
• Lifetime warranty on all major parts.
• The safest way to bike ride with your dog!

All dogs love to run and biking is the best way to give a dog the daily exercise it needs.  It's more fun and it will keep both you and your dog fit, healthy and very happy!  Easily the best gift you will ever give to your four legged friend!

  1. Dusty our GSD takes his job seriously

Posted by Anna and Dusty, NT on 29th Aug 2011

Dusty, 14 month GSD, LOVES the springer and can hardly contain himself being harnessed up to the bike. He has been a difficult dog to exercise as he was always on the lookout to put his 'serve and protect' motto into practise. Now with the springer he puts his energy into pulling my husband and bike along. We can say heel and he will slow down but as soon as my husband pedals he hunkers down and strides ahead. He just loves to be of service and the springer keeps his mind on the job of ferrying his master along!

  2. Training with the Springer for an Endurance Test

Posted by Janine and Enya, VIC on 1st May 2011

The Springer is on my bike and attached. Enya (my German Shorthaired Pointer) and I have already had a training run at the local sports oval. Now the REAL training can begin so we can do an Endurance Test! Thank you for the prompt delivery. We're off!

  3. Excellent!!

Posted by One happy Australian Shepard, SA on 13th Apr 2011

Superb service and product. One review mentioned The Springer was difficult to attach. I am glad I didn't let this steer me. Five minutes it was attached and I was cruising down the road with my energetic ecstatic Shepard. I was in complete control. I was expecting a wait of about a week. I brought it midday Monday it arrived Wednesday morning.

  4. Can't wait to use it

Posted by Cynthia and Ripley, NSW on 25th Jan 2011

Just want to say how happy I am with the Springer.....love the design and the built in release. Thank you for the quick and friendly service, along with all the useful tips you also gave.

  5. Under control and comfortable on the Springer

Posted by David and GSD, NSW on 25th Jun 2010

I put my GSD on the Springer yesterday afternoon and off we went. He did tend to lung forward and occasionally toward the front wheel, but, once I told him look out or heel he would drop back out of the way. Similarly for turning left, as he is on the left of my bike, this took a few small practices but I must say that after just a few minutes, he was right under control and very comfortable with the Springer - we completed about 3.5km (at around 20km/h) plus his normal run at the park with ease. This from a very fit and powerful 40kg dog. Thanks for the quick service - we love it!

  6. My Shetland Sheepdog thinks this is just great!

Posted by Debbie and Prada, Qld on 29th Mar 2010

The Springer bike attachment is the best thing that I have bought for me and my dog. My dog Prada is a one year old Shetland Sheepdog, we now go on the bike every single day and this makes her very happy because she loves to run. I think it is a fantastic invention and am so glad I got it.

  7. My Boxer thinks this is for champions!

Posted by Dave & Boxer, NSW on 8th Nov 2009

This Springer is a dead set winner! We have a 1 year old boxer who has more energy than the energiser bunny! Exercising him was getting bad for my knees, ankles and achilles. I put the Springer bike attachment together yesterday and took him for a ride today. Within half an hour I've had a "stress free" workout and puppy is well and truly satisfied!

  8. Bike ride with the Springer helps an overweight Collie

Posted by White family and soon to be slimmer healthier Collie/Kelpie Dog, WA on 11th Sep 2009

We have just had our first run with our dog and the springer attached to the bike. Our slightly overweight pooch loved it straight away. She got tired very quick but I'm sure the more we go the better she'll become! Start slow and build our way up.  We think this is a fantastic invention and are so glad we got it! Thank you for your awesome service,  we will be recommending TopDogs to all our friends and family who own dogs.

  9. Exercise your Dog and have less Problems

Posted by Amanda, Rosie and Jed, Qld on 14th Aug 2009

Riding the bike means that I can give my dogs the exercise they need without making myself a cripple for a few days as I have a very bad ankle injury which has restricted how far I can walk. My dogs actually have to run and burn off some of their excess energy instead of simply walking. Australia would probably have less dogs with "problems" if we gave our dogs the exercise they needed rather than a quick 5 minute walk and a small backyard. More dog owners need to use a Springer bike attachment, we're having a great time!

  10. Real hassle to install, but worth the trouble!

Posted by Liza & Keeda on 13th Dec 2008

I got my Australian Cattle Dog/Kelpie/Beagle mix the Springer for Christmas. It took my boyfriend and myself the afternoon just to get everything ready (including the bike, which slowed us down a bit as well :) we found it a bit of a hassle to put on but when we finally got Keeda into a harness and got to try out the Springer we realized that it was all worth it!

My dog LOVES it and I love not crashing onto the ground! She used to pull towards the next dog she saw as we were running - now with the Springer I barely feel the pulling! I'm so glad I came across this device!
